Since 1999, The White Wardrobe has offered a unique and relaxed environment for brides-to-be to find their dream dress in Bancroft, Hitchin.
The store was bought in 2012 by the manager Nicola Prebble, who comes from a background of fashion and many years of experience in bridal. Having always preferred a one-on-one experience with customers, Nicola allows only one bride at a time to shop, this allows the bride to enjoy a relaxed and personal atmosphere.
Not to mention, she does everything by herself! Nicola manages all of her own sales, marketing accounts and advertising. To stay up to date with the trends she reads bridal magazines and attends exhibitions. She also has a great relationship with her reps, and gets helpful tips from them and friends who own their own bridal stores as well.
Being located in such a small town, Nicola relies on most of her business from recommendations and social media.
What sets her business apart from others? Being a one woman show Nicola says, “I like having my own shop, I have the freedom to work with my brides and to make the whole experience as perfect as I can for them, and also to make the business changes I need to grow. I learned so much from my previous boss, and was very glad to have the opportunity to start up on my own, times are hard, but if we all work together, 2018 will be an amazing year.”
While some bridal shops can feel unapproachable, brides describe The White Wardrobe as calm and not intimidating. Nicola instills balance to make her shop beautiful, approachable, and affordable.
Having taken on the Justin Alexander label first, The White Wardrobe has also acquired Sincerity dresses too. When talking about Justin Alexander as a company, Nicola says, “The customer service from my reps Chris & Nick is out of this world". They are always free to chat or come in to help me out. It’s an easy brand to promote on social media and I know I can sell a dress to a bride and there’s not going to be an issue when it is due to arrive.”
When asked what her favorite Justin Alexander dress was, Nicola answered with Style 8792. It has been a pleasure to have in the shop, it is so different to anything else I have here at the moment, it is so beautiful, simple and elegant but so flattering too.
Nicola offers brides-to-be some helpful advice when shopping for their dream gown: “It’s best to do lots of research of where you’d like to visit and make sure you don’t wait too late to start looking. Give yourself enough time to place orders, and allow plenty of time for delivery and of course alterations. And most of all don’t fall in love with something that’s above what you’re willing to spend.”
