How To Look 5lbs Lighter In A Justin Alexander Wedding Dress

Finding a wedding dress that makes you look slimmer is perhaps the number one request we get from brides. Which styles will help me look thinner as I walk down the aisle? Are there silhouettes that will elongate my figure? Can I find a wedding dress that is both slimming and comfortable?

As a bride, you've got a lot on your plate, even if you've cut out carbs, sugar, dairy, junk food, and all of life's guilty, edible pleasures. Let's face it- sometimes that wedding diet and exercise plan takes a back seat to the seating chart, the flower arrangements, every little catering decision, and, ironically, the cake testing. At Justin Alexander we've been designing and matching brides with their dream dress for over 62 years, and one thing that hasn't changed is the desire to look your very best on your big day. More often than not that means losing those last few pounds you've been trying to shed away since college. There are a few tricks of the trade that we want to share with brides that find themselves slightly frustrated with those last 5 pounds. Finding a dress that is inherently slimming could mean freeing up that schedule, and removing this stress will make everything feel (and look!) a bit lighter.

Concentrate on silhouette. A ball gown silhouette will help hide extra bulk, and create a smooth line, and the illusion of an elongated form. Our favorite ball gown silhouettes from this season are Style 8892 with its layers of tulle and regal appeal, and Style 9848- with a beautifully beaded illusion bodice and beautifully full skirt. A waist-cinching belt or cummerbund will give you that envious hourglass silhouette instantly. Try Style 8894 or Style 8881F that will make sure you don't waste that waistline. Add a fluttery layer like in Style 8876 which highlights your best assets while delicately hiding your midsection.

Choose your embellishments strategically. Allow me to embellish upon this a bit more. Crystals, beading, floral appliques, embroidery. These are all very pretty things, but don't let their appearance deceive you. When used properly they create a more slimming silhouette. Our favorite styles with these features are Style 8887 with its perfectly placed beading and Style 9851 with its intricately embellished bodice that cascades into a figure-flattering A-line shape. Just remember- don't work for your fancy, make your fancy work for you.

Put the "fabricate" into Fabrications Our wedding dresses are made from some of the most beautiful and highest quality fabrics in the world, but we also have a very technical approach to choosing our fabrications. A wedding dress will be the most flattering garment you ever wear because of the technical details used to create the desired affect. Layers of delicate tulle in ball gown Style 8886 and the stunningly sturdy metallic skirt in Style 9855 create an infallible form for any bride. The beautifully embroidered organza in style 9858 is simple, slimming and oh-so-stylish.

Add an element of surprise. If you're looking to hide some extra love on your wedding day, a plain white column dress, while sleek and sophisticated, can act as a bright canvas for your insecurities. For a slimming effect, go for the wow factor! Your guests will be so impressed that they won't even begin to guess that you were under any stress. Our favorites from this season are 9864 with its iridescent embroidered skirt and opulent beaded bodice. Our opt for one of our timeless tea length styles. A peep of your ladylike legs and sassy shoes will take away from any unwanted fullness from a ball gown. Try tyle 8904 and Style 8881 for our latest tea length inspirations.
